So far as our indoor flowers are concerned, I have taken a special liking to the Christmas cactus. While the other flowers are blooming all together when it is light, the cactus is grey and colourless. It starts to wake up when it becomes dark in the autumn. When the other flowers are past blooming, the cactus starts off. It is almost magic how the fiery red rhythmic blooms appear on its branches. The cactus is in its element then. The others are nothing compared to it in the darkest season.
