WELCOME TO OULU 
- northern city full of culture

Oulu is the interntionally oriented culture capital of Northern Finland, distinguished in childrens´ and youths´ culture, continuously in search of new. In our friendly city you can enjoy almost all forms of cultural activities.

Culture House Valve, houses organizations and associations offering a variety of cultural services in photography, cinema, theatre, puppet theatre, dance and video art.

Oulu City Library - Provincial Library offers a path to widened knowledge as well as new experiences.

Oulu Symphony Orchestra, the only professional symphony orchestra in northern Finland, produces high quality music of various kinds for the pleasure of its audiences. In addition to symphony concerts, the Orchestra also performs sacral music, light music, chamber music, as well as produces an opera every year together with the City Theatre, the Conservatorie and Oulu Opera Association.

Oulu City Theatre produces 8 -10 plays for the friends of drama every year. One of the premiers is always an opera, produced together with Oulu Symphony Orchestra, the Conservatoire ans Oulu Opera Association. Moreover, the Theatre produces at leas one childrens´ play every year and organizes the annual Theatre Days for children and youths. Oulu City Theatre´s perhformances are visited by people from whole Northern Finland.

Oulu Art Museum serves local, national as well as international visual culture. It´s activities include exhibitions, publications, information services, guidances and art education. Oulu Art Museum´s own collections consist of more than 2000 works.

North Ostrobothnia Museum tells it´s stories of local and regional history  in an intriguing an illustrative way. There is also a miniature of the city as it was in 1938 on display in the museum.The ethnological collection of Lappish items was collected by the ethnologist Samuli Paulaharju. Museum is also responsible of Conservation, a provincial museum work and the building research.

Science Centre Tietomaa is a great experience for people of all ages. The exhibition themes at Tietomaa change yearly. The theme exhibitions present technique and different fields of science in a fascinating and entertaining way. The average duration of visits is about four hours. Tietomaa is also an excellent outing destination for groups and ideal for holding meetings, training courses and other events.
