A new team for youth social work

In August the City of Oulu founded a new team with seven members to help unemployed young people, who are 18–24 years of age and don't have any income.

"The objectives set for us by the city are to prevent youth marginalization and diminish the costs of income support for young people," the team leader Mirva Ylianttila says.

"We're close to the young people. We have offices in wellness centres and welfare points, healthcare centres and also in Byström Youth Services. We also offer to meet young people at their homes or in a café, places that are easy for them to reach."

"One of our counsellors can be reached on Facebook. We have reserved some of his worktime for Facebook communication. The counsellors also use WhatsApp, and young people can contact their counsellor and message them via this application free of charge."
