The Northern Ostrobothnia Museum's function as a regional museum is to serve and provide guidance for local museums, other communities, and private citizens in the Northern Ostrobothnia region in questions regarding the recording and preservation of cultural heritage.
A regional museum curator monitors and guides the use of discretionary state grants given annually by the National Board of Antiquities to non-professionally managed museums and provides expert help in basic museum operations, such as the management of collections and design of exhibitions.
Our operational area is the region of Northern Ostrobothnia. This region is the second largest in Finland and consists of 29 municipalities of which 11 are cities. There are over 70 museums and item collections in the area.
