HeartsWhy language immersion

Since 1965 immersion bilingual education has spread rapidly in many parts of the World. Today this provision is available in several countries, also in Finland.

The World continues its transition towards globalisation and language proficiency will be a critical advantage for the adults ot tomorrow. Immersion children thus share the added value of two (or more) languages. In immersion learning social skills and language are combinied.

In practical terms Kindergarten language communication in immersion program aims to be meaningful, authentic and relevant to the child's needs. The content of the curriculum becomes the focus for the language.

Perpetual insistence on correct communication it avoided and emphasis is placed on understanding before speaking. Learning a second language in early immersion becomes incidental and unconscious; similar to the way a first language is acquired.

The child is encouraged to use English as much as possible, however, his/her mother tongue is respected. To learn a foreign language there must be one, well learned as the base before beginning a new language immersion.

Children have their own way of learning. That is why we use many kind of teaching methods (visual, auditory and concrete).

Our motto is: The content we teach is as important as the language we teach! Like a Finnish author Lauri Viita once commented of a person who was proud to speak several languages; It is a good thing that he can speak several languages, but has he got anything to say?

Tervetuloa
