Summary
The outline plan of Hiukkavaara was approved 21.4.2008 by the City Council
as a guideline for city planning.
The planning area is located on the north side of Vaalantie road reaching
between the former garrison area and Sanginjoentie road. The planning area
is 1462 hectares. The combined area is approximately 5000 hectares, most of
which remain as a recreational and forestry area. The goal is to build
Hiukkavaara as an urban housing area and a new district centre with
versatile public and private sector services to include circa 9500 homes and
20 000 residents.
City planning
City planning of the first phase, Kivikkokangas, has started in summer 2008.
Architectural competition 20.2.-22.6.2009
An idea competition of the Hiukkavaara centre is open for everyone. The
competition language is Finnish. More information can be found
