The Whole City Walks – Around the Globe August 15–31, 2015
From August 15 to 31, 2015, the City of Oulu Sports and Recreation Services is organising a sports campaign “The Whole City Walks – Around the Globe” with the aim to increase everyday activity. The goal of the campaign is to encourage people to move more in their day-to-day lives.
Last year the campaign was called “Oulu Walks – Around the Globe”. This year the name was changed because Oulu challenged other Finnish cities to take part in the campaign. Tampere, Turku and Vantaa have joined the friendly competition to see which city can walk the longest distance around the globe.
The campaign is carried out by the City of Oulu in cooperation with local sports associations, communities and workplaces. The progress of the campaign and the round-the-world journey of the people of each city can be followed in social media and on the website www.ouka.fi/kaupunkiaskeltaaas well as on the public UBI displays in the Oulu city centre.
Each participant can enter to win health-themed giveaways, such as the following prizes: Loop activity wristbands, Polart FT4 heart rate monitors and free entrance tickets to the city’s swimming pools and/or gyms.
Several different sports and culture activities will be organised during the campaign to get people moving. All of the events are listed on the campaign website. The campaign will kick off on Aug 15 with a ladies’ jogging event ‘Likkojen Lenkki’. On Aug 19–27, more than 2000 children will take part in children’s sport activities organised by the Oulu Sports Services in six different locations.
Join the campaign to help Oulu walk the farthest around the globe!
