Children with symptoms of infection must not go to daycare or school from Wed 25 March

The rapid increase in the incidences of coronavirus in the Nordic countries and southern Finland predicts an increase in coronavirus incidences in the Oulu region in the near future.

For this reason, Jarkko Huusko, a doctor of infectious diseases at the city of Oulu, and Jorma Mäkitalo, Director of Healthcare at the City of Oulu, recommend that children with symptoms of infection do not go to school or daycare from 25 March onwards. This applies to children who have mild symptoms such as running nose, cough or sore throat.

Although there is currently little evidence of new coronavirus disease in children and adolescents and the symptoms have been mild in this patient group, it is important to reduce the risk of coronavirus infections spreading in daycare and schools. By doing this, we also protect the staff of daycare and schools.

We also remind parents that grandparents must not come to take care for a sick child. Similarly, a parent whose job is critical to the functioning of the society is advised not to stay at home to take care of a child if there are other alternatives.
