Contact teaching in schools starts on May 14

The Government decided on April 29 to lift the restrictions on early childhood education and care and those on primary and lower secondary education. The decision is based on the assessment of health authorities.

The decision means that all primary and lower secondary school students will return to contact teaching on May 14. The restrictions on daycare (early childhood education) will also be lifted on May 14. However, no open early childhood education will be organised in Oulu this spring.

Based on an epidemiological assessment, there are no longer grounds for the restrictions concerning early childhood education and care and primary and lower secondary education. Read the Government's decision and justification from the press release of the Ministry of Education and Culture (April 29, 2020)

The City of Oulu, as the organiser of the education, plans the education for the period of May 14–30 in accordance with the guidelines of Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL) and Ministry of Education and Culture (OKM) so that teaching can be carried out in a controlled manner and with care for safety. We will also receive more detailed instructions from the Finnish National Agency for Education in the coming days.

Gurardians will receive more detailed schedules and instructions later from the principals of schools.
