The city bike system in Oulu will not start in May
Nextbike Polska S.A. which operates the city bike system in Oulu cannot start the city bike system in May, and not necessary during the whole season. Hence the bikes will stay in a warehouse until further notice.
In Poland all city bike systems have been closed by a government decision since March in 35 different cities. Due to corona crisis the income of Nextbike Polska S.A. has dropped dramatically which has worsened the financial situation of the company.
Nextbike Polska S.A. was chosen to be the city bike system provider in Oulu after a public procurement process. The company is a big city bike system provider in Europe. In Finland Turku and Oulu are using Nextbike’s citybike systems.
The city bike system in Oulu covers 600 bikes and 60 stations. Operating costs of a city bike system consists of e.g. bike maintenance and balancing process, customer service and different IT systems.
