As of the beginning of 2013, Oulu, Haukipudas, Kiiminki, Oulunsalo and Yli-Ii will join forces to build new Oulu. This merger of five municipalities will be marked with several events, high points and festivities. 2013 marks the celebration year of new Oulu.

The aim of the New Oulu Celebration Year and the programme is to promote a feeling of community and to showcase local talent and the variety of the region. Young people are in special focus during the Celebration Year.
