The emergency on-call service will help you in urgent cases of sickness outside opening times.
There is always one veterinarian on call for pets and one veterinarian on call for livestock in the Oulu region’s veterinary on-call service outside opening times.
The emergency on-call service is reserved for urgent cases. Such as
- Convulsions
- Breathing difficulties
- Accidents
- Inability to urinate or defecate
- Snakebite or some other animal bite
- Difficulty giving birth
What to do
Call the emergency on-call service.
When the veterinarian and nurse are performing care services and are unable to answer the call, the call will be transferred to an automatic answering machine. Please leave a message in which you give your name, phone number and explain your case in short. You will be called back as soon as possible.
The veterinarian will treat livestock and horses in their own habitat at an agreed time.
Pets are treated at the Oulu veterinarian office. Always call first and agree on a registration time before leaving for the office. Please prepare to wait because you might have to wait for your turn. The patients are treated in order of urgency.

If you live outside the Environment Office of the Oulu Region’s area of operations, please call your region’s emergency veterinary on-call service.
Background and Legislation
Outside of opening times, required veterinary services are offered by municipal veterinary emergency on-call services. The on-call service might be shared by multiple municipalities.
Small pets should be delivered to the veterinary office, but large animals are treated in their own habitat.
The municipality may produce the veterinary services themselves or provide them via a private service provider.
Fees
Veterinary fees are increased in the evenings and nights, weekends and on mid-week holidays based on the veterinary treatment times as follows:
Weekday evenings
Mon – Fri 17.00 - 22.00 50%
Mon – Fir 22.00 - 8.00 100%
Saturdays, Sundays, church holidays, Independence Day, May Day, Midsummer Eve
8.00 - 22.00 50%
22.00 - 8.00 100%
All general debit and credit cards and cash are accepted as payment methods. Partial payments or payments by credit transfer are not accepted.
