Preschool education

Our ECEC centre has a preschool group called Pöllöt. Together with Kaukovainio School and Hiirulaisenkuja pre-primary education, we are developing pedagogy for 5–8-year-olds in our area. Together, teachers plan joint teaching moments and fun trips to the surrounding area for preschool and primary pupils. The school and its surroundings become familiar already in preschool education.

We follow both the national and Oulu’s own Curriculum for Pre-primary Education in our daily work.

Our ECEC centre

Our ECEC centre is located in the forested Kaukovainio area, close to the Kaukovainio school and library. The forests are nearby and we hike in them weekly. The children work in small groups and can participate in the planning and evaluation of activities. We cooperate with Vaskitie ECEC centre, Kaukovainio school and the area's services for the elderly.

In our ECEC centre, we go "On the wings of joy from one floor to another"!

We genuinely encourage and meet each other. We inspire and get excited together. We care about each other and give everyone the opportunity to make a difference. We value everyone equally and are happy to help each other. Positive pedagogy carries us on the wings of joy in everyday life. The ECEC centre is a shared play ground for all children.

Mission statement

Merikotka ECEC centre is multicultural. Our ECEC centre has four groups of children. In our operations, we place special emphasis on learning emotional and interaction skills. Participatory practices and versatile use of image support are part of everyday life for us. We strive for smoothness and tranquility in everyday life. We hike in the surrounding area regularly.

We follow both the national and Oulu’s own Curriculum for early childhood education and care in our daily work.
