Nallikari Beach

Nallikari’s gently deepening beach consisting of fine sand is Oulu’s most popular beach which is also suitable for children. The beach is approximately one kilometer in width and is a popular tourist destination.

Lifeguards are posted on the Nallikari Beach every day from 11.00–19.00 from mid-June until mid-August. You may find the lifeguards in the lifeguard tower or contact them by phone if needed, tel. 050 5922 811.

A red, carpet-like passage grate leads to the lifeguard tower over the sand to enhance its accessibility. It is easier to pass over the sand on the passage grate with baby carriages, rollators and wheelchairs. You may borrow a Hippocampe all-terrain wheelchair from the lifeguards. With the all-terrain wheelchair, you may enter the water up to a swimming depth.

There are multiple beach changing rooms in Nallikari. There are outdoor toilets on all three entrances to the beach in the summers. One of the toilets is accessible.

Nallikari is being renewed in 2023–2024

Nallikari is being renewed in many ways during the years 2023–2024. Due to construction sites, some of the parking spaces are not in use.

A new accommodation, business and service building is being built along the beach road. Two new squares will be built and the lighting, walkways and cycleways will be enhanced.

To the beach by bus or bicycle

You can travel to Nallikari on the number 15 bus. See the bus schedules on the Oulu Public Transport’s website.

The walkways and cycleways to Nallikari are excellent. For example, you can follow the main cycle route 12 to Nallikari from Rotuaari via Pikisaari. A wider portion has been constructed from Toppilansaarentie to Leiritie as a part of the Nallibaana. There are good cycling and walking connections from the northern direction to Nallikari as well.

Barbeque and other activities

There are two barbeque sites by the edge of the beach on the lighthouse side. There is an accessible passage to the barbeque sites from the beach. You may purchase firewood from the Nallikari Holiday Village (Leiritie 10), for example, or you may bring your own firewood. Please remember to properly dispose of waste in waste bins at the barbeque sites as well as on the beach.

There are exercise equipment, beach volley fields, a children’s playground and football goals on the beach. Please note that bringing dogs to the beach is prohibited. Read more about Nallikari services on the Nallikari Holiday Village website.

There are signposts to the Hietasaari Nature Trail on the Nallikari parking area (in Finnish). There is plenty to see on the five-kilometer hiking trail.
