Green Transition
What is green transition?
Green transition means change towards a more sustainable economy that prioritizes low carbon usage, circular economy, natural biodiversity, and the substitution of fossil fuels with clean energy. In Oulu, green transition is especially visible in investments in hydrogen production and processing.
Oulu Port – Oritkari & Vihreäsaari
The Oulu Port area’s green transition site consists of Oritkari and Vihreäsaari. Separate zoning alterations are underway in both areas that will enable the expansion of the port area and the creation of new green transition industrial sites.
Laanila
Laanila’s industrial area focuses on chemical industries and is located about four kilometers north-east from the city centre. The area also includes sawmilling and electricity and heat production.
Pyyryväinen
The green transition industrial area in Pyyryväinen is located about ten kilometers from the city centre in between Alakyläntie and Kuusamontie. A separate master plan is underway that enables green transition industry. Three hydrogen production and processing plants are being planned for the area.
Hangaskangas
The planned industrial area in Hangaskangas is located at an excellent power transmission junction near the Pikkarala power plant about 15 kilometers south-east of the Oulu city centre. The goal of the zoning is to enable green transition and power-intensive industry in the area.
