Highlights of Egyptian Culture at Villa Victor’s Cultural Café

10.08.2026

Welcome to explore Egyptian culture at Villa Victor’s Cultural Café on Wednesday, September 2 from 3–6 PM.

In addition to traditional Egyptian drinks and flavors, the café offers visitors a chance to win prizes in quizzes, try writing in hieroglyphs, and explore Egyptian crafts and traditional clothing.

“On offer are traditional Egyptian mint tea, cold hibiscus drink, and dates. Visitors can also smell spices that have historically been used in Egypt for cooking and even mummification,” says Alaa Naggar, the event organizer, who has lived in Oulu for three years.

“Visitors can create Khayamiya-style felt bookmarks, play wooden Tutankhamun/Nefertiti puzzles, and make beaded jewelry or enjoy coloring activities. There will also be a photo spot where you can dress up in traditional Egyptian outfits, scarves, and pharaoh-themed accessories,” Naggar explains.

At the Egyptian Cultural Café, visitors can also try writing using hieroglyphs and Arabic calligraphy. “We will also explore Egyptian sayings and the country’s most important sights,” Naggar adds, warmly welcoming everyone to the event.

Villa Victor organizes the Cultural Café series as part of the Oulu European Capital of Culture year, in collaboration with local language and cultural communities.

Welcome to experience the richness of cultures at Villa Victor! The Cultural Café series will continue later in the autumn with Ukrainian, Sámi, and Bangladeshi Cultural Cafés.
