Villa Victor Cultural Café Opens Doors to World Cultures starting in February

28.01.2026

On Wednesday, February 4, Villa Victor kicks off a new Cultural Café series inviting visitors to explore the rich and diverse cultures of the world. The café takes place at Oulu10’s aquarium, every first Wednesday of the month from 3–6 PM.

The Cultural Café is part of Oulu’s year as European Capital of Culture and is organized in collaboration with the network of local language and cultural communities. Each session gives visitors a unique opportunity to experience the customs, traditions, and everyday life of a different country or culture.

The first Cultural Café will focus on Sri Lanka, celebrating its rich culture and Independence Day.
“Guests can explore Sri Lankan festivals, traditional dance, daily life, and the country’s many languages and religions,” says Chaya Rathnayaka, one of the organizers.

Sri Lankan community members will be present to answer questions, and visitors can take part in a simple hands-on activity: writing a greeting for Sri Lanka’s Independence Day and trying a traditional Sinhala phrase.
“Our café offers a relaxed atmosphere and plenty to experience. Everyone is welcome,” Rathnayaka adds.

The Cultural Café series will continue in March with a Persia-themed session, in April with Peruvian culture, and in May exploring Chinese culture. Everyone is welcome to discover new cultures at Villa Victor!
