Termination of a Place in Early Childhood Education and Care

Terminating a Municipal Early Education Place

An early education (ECEC) place or an open early childhood education (open ECEC) place must be terminated before you stop using the service. You may terminate the place in the eVaka service. If you are unable to terminate the place in eVaka, please fill in the form below and submit it to the ECEC centre or home-based childcare.

Terminating the place ends the care relationship, and the decision granting the ECEC place is also terminated. Any other active care relationships and possible transfer applications will be cancelled when you terminate a place.

Terminating a Private Early Education Place

Private ECEC places are terminated in eVaka. In addition, the family must inform the private service provider of the termination and of the child’s last day of attendance. You may negotiate the termination period with the service provider, but typically the notice period is at least one month.

Transferring Between Municipal and Private ECEC

Remember to terminate your previous ECEC place when transferring to another service provider (from municipal to private or vice versa).

Municipal ECEC does not have a notice period, but the place cannot be terminated retroactively. Private ECEC providers typically require at least one month’s notice, which should be taken into consideration when transferring. Both municipal and private places are terminated in eVaka. When transferring from private ECEC centre, please remember to inform the ECEC staff or home-based childcare practitioner of the termination and your child’s final day of attendance.

Moving to Another Municipality

When moving to another municipality, the ECEC place may be used until the end of the month in which the move takes place.

If you are unable to terminate the place in eVaka, please fill in the form below and submit it to the ECEC centre or home-based childcare practitioner.
