The new Museum and Science Centre is one of the cornerstones of Oulu’s cultural climate change. The new building in Myllytulli will include new services on top of the renewed Science Centre Tietomaa and the Oulu Museum. The new facilities create an opportune setting for surprising cooperation and unique experiences.

The Museum and Science Centre filled with the feel of English campuses will be complete in 2026, during Oulu’s European Capital of Culture year. Construction work began in the spring of 2024. It is one of the largest culture investments in the city of Oulu’s history.

Modern and adaptable

The impressive building complex being built in the old Åström industrial area in Myllytulli will include eight exhibition spaces, an immersive multimedia space, workshop facilities, a restaurant, and a shop. Due to the adaptability of the facility, the modern complex will offer visitors many experiences. The same space will always feel new. The exhibition area will also extend outside. The complex offers workspaces for approximately 40 employees. The future exhibition and event centre is expected to see over 200 000 visitors annually.

Tiima, an experience Centre of the future

The Museum and Science Centre will be called Tiima. The name refers to an hourglass (tiimalasi in Finnish), which symbolizes a journey and adventure through time. The word, tiima, also resembles the word team, which symbolizes the unique cooperation between two museums and the science centre. The complex ties together history, art and science in an inspirational way.
