Reflections from More love, less hate speech workshop

Every image carries a thousand stories and feelings. We had meaningful discussions as we made art during the More love, less hate art workshop were held at Tuira School in collaboration with Tuira's youth centre on November 13th and 25th.

Thank you everybody for your heartfelt contributions! Here are some thoughts from the participating artists:

Ezra said, “This work is about how hate speech takes the colour out of your life. Hate speech flattens you unless your story is heard. Hate speech is dehumanizing.”

Gaku’s work explored protection and freedom.

Alli had meaningful insight that “if everyone knew everybody’s story, I believe there wouldn’t be hate speech.”

These workshops were free of cost and for youth 15-29 years old. The main languages of the workshops were Finnish and English.

Arlene Tucker from Oulu for All project and Alli Teirikko from No Hate Speech Nordic were the workshop's facilitators. If you have any questions about the workshop or would like us to hold this workshop with your youth, feel free to reach out to Arlene at arlene.tucker@ouka.fi or call her at 040 619 7034.

You Belong Here art workshop series are free and made possible due the generous funding of ESR+. Workshops relating to hate speech are a part of a project "National Youth Campaigns Against Hate Speech", which is supported by the Council of Europe through the European Youth Foundation. The views expressed do not necessarily reflect the official position of the Council of Europe.
