Oulu is the hub for a wide variety of cultural events and activities for children. Local providers offer high-quality events and activities every weekend. From our website and Facebook profile, visitors can find event picks, information on other events, attractions and their organizers, as well as options for additional recreational activities.
The aim of our Children’s Culture City Oulu concept is to round up information on children’s cultural events to one place. The concept is coordinated at the Cultural Centre Valve.

Enchanted Words is an annual literature and literary arts festival for children and young people. Its programme spans several weeks and includes a literature-themed exhibition. In addition to events and performances, the programme features workshops, training sessions and meetings with authors, and texts written by children and young people are published during the festival. The festival is organised by the Valve School of Literary Arts for Children.

The Oulu Theatre Festival for Young Audiences is the oldest festival intended for children and young people in Finland and one of the largest ones in Europe. Its programme features dozens of Finnish and international performances and events. In addition to traditional theatre, the festival offers dance and circus performances, as well as participatory theatre. The Oulu City Theatre is the principal organiser of the festival.

The oldest children’s film festival in the Nordic countries, the Oulu International Children’s and Youth Film Festival attracts around 30,000 visitors annually. During this one-week event, Oulu fills with stories told on the screen and at seminars and exhibitions. Held in November, the festival features artistically ambitious films for children and young people. Films from different parts of the world are shown from morning till night. Films for small children are either interpreted on the spot or shown with subtitles. The event is organised by the Oulu Film Centre.
