Come celebrate the new Finland-Sweden railway connection at the Oulu Railway Station on August 10

07.08.2026

The first passenger train from Sweden will arrive in Oulu on Monday, August 10. The opening of the historical railway connection is openly celebrated in the pop-up park next to the Oulu Railway Station starting at 9.00.

Speeches will be held by the Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne, Mayor of Oulu Ari Alatossava, the Swedish Ambassador to Finland Peter Ericson, and the Director of Oulu2026 Cultural Foundation Piia Rantala-Korhonen. The music will be provided by the National Defense Academy’s band, conducted by Petri Aho

The new railway connection reinforces connections between Finland, Sweden, and the entire northern region. It also supports tourism, the economy, and mobility across borders.

The event will last about an hour and is open to everyone. Come celebrate the opening of this historical railway connection and the new phase of northern cooperation!
