It is safe to swim in the Linnanmaa Swimming Pool – some findings were brown adhesive

01.09.2025

The exercise pool in Linnanmaa Swimming Pool was closed six times in the last few weeks due to suspected excrement findings. After studying, two of the findings were found to be safe material. The material was the brown adhesive used in attaching tactic boards to walls by swimming teams. When this material gets wet, it resembles feces. The boards have gotten wet, and some adhesive has come loose into the pool. These boards have been removed from use.

The four feces findings are investigated actively by studying security camera footage. The incidents have been reported to the police since the perpetrator or perpetrators are not known. More lifeguards have also been added to Linnanmaa Swimming Pool.

Linnanmaa Swimming Pool operates as normal, and it is safe to swim there. All Oulu’s swimming pools are very attentive to hygiene; if impurities are found, they will react immediately, and the water will be purified if needed.

A campaign regarding shared etiquette and hygiene will launch in Oulu’s swimming pools on September 8. The goal of the campaign is to communicate how everyone can affect the cleanliness of the pools and the comfort at the facility. The campaign is published in Finnish and English.
