The Lumo Light Festival 2026 call for proposals is now open
The Lumo Light Festival in Oulu, Finland, invites artists, designers, lighting professionals, students, and educational institutions to submit their proposals for the 2026 event. The Lumo Light Festival will be held from Thursday to Sunday, November 19–22, 2026. In conjunction with the European Capital of Culture year, the Lumo Light Festival will be celebrated on a larger scale than in previous years.
The theme of the Lumo Light Festival in 2026 is The Other Side. This year, the light festival will once again spread beyond the city centre of Oulu to the Oulu River estuary.
Creators are asked to submit their proposals by 4.00 p.m. on March 13, 2026, using the official application form. The application form and more detailed information can be found on the Lumo website at lumo.ouka.fi.
"The European Capital of Culture year will enable the light festival to grow larger than in previous years and gain wider international visibility. This is also a great opportunity for local artists to showcase their work in the field of light art. That is why we are also hoping to receive applications from Oulu and other parts of Northern Finland," says Leevi Lehtinen, Project Manager of the Light Matters project.
The Lumo Light Festival is an annual city event organised by the City of Oulu that is open to everyone and attracts around 100,000 visitors each year.
The 2026 festival will last four days, which is one day longer than previously.
