A new outdoor exercise gym in Nallikari opened on Monday May 4

A new outdoor exercise gym has opened in Nallikari. The gym is located along a popular exercise route, and includes 12 pieces of exercise equipment, jump boxes, and pull-up bars. Using the gym is free of charge. The equipment include adjustable weights. 

The outdoor exercise gym’s opening was celebrated on Monday May 4, 2026. Sports Services’ instructors and a representative of the equipment manufacturer Omnigym were present to guide attendees in using the equipment safely and diversely. During this week, instructors will be present at select times on all weekdays. 

The outdoor exercise gym in Nallikari utilizes sensors that can be used to monitor the busiest hours and most popular equipment. You may also provide feedback through a user survey. 

“We expect that the new outdoor exercise gym will see heavy use. Nallikari is a popular exercise location for both residents and visitors. We hope to construct more outdoor exercise gyms with adjustable weights all over Oulu to make exercise more accessible”, Outdoor Exercise Director Mika Puolitaival explains. 

The outdoor exercise equipment in Nallikari were procured with Participatory Budgeting 2025 funds, but the installation work could only be finished in the spring of 2026. The implementation cost 130 000 €, and it is the most expensive project implemented through Participatory Budgeting.
