Virpiniemi’s first-snow ski track will open on Friday November 7, 2025
A first-snow ski track in Virpiniemi, Haukipudas, was opened on Friday November 7, 2025, at 10.00. The trail was constructed with stored snow, and you can ski using both the classic style and freestyle there. Snow has been stored over the summer under woodchips, so there may be traces of woodchips in the snow.
The ski track is 1,7 km long and is lit from 6.00–23.00 during dark periods. The track is maintained usually in the early mornings, and additional maintenance is done when needed.
“We were forced to reduce the length of the track from the planned 2,5 km to ensure that the track’s snow base is thick enough. This secures the skiing conditions long into the spring”, Outdoor Exercise Manager Mika Puolitaival from Oulu Sport Services explains.
Virpiniemi’s first-snow ski track was opened in the fall of 2025 for the first time. Skiing on the track is free of charge.
