Internship opportunities
Internship Opportunities at Oulu International School
Oulu International School welcomes applications from international students interested in gaining experience in a Finnish school environment.
What We Offer
Our internships provide an opportunity to learn about the Finnish education system, observe teaching practices, and become familiar with everyday life in an international school. Interns typically support classroom activities and assist teachers and students in their daily work.
Please note that internships at our school are not formally supervised teaching placements. Interns mainly support classroom activities and work in a role similar to a school assistant. We are unable to provide structured mentoring or assessed teaching practices required by some teacher education programs.
Internship Duration
We are primarily interested in interns who can stay for an entire semester. The minimum internship period is two months. Longer placements are preferred, as they allow interns to become fully involved in the school community and gain a more meaningful learning experience.
Funding
All internships must be self-funded. Many of our international interns participate through programmes such as Erasmus+ Traineeships or other funding schemes provided by their home institution.
Language Requirements
As English is the working language of our school, applicants are expected to have a good command of spoken and written English. We generally require English language proficiency at a minimum level of B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Application Process
If you are interested in applying, please send us:
- A motivation letter explaining your interest in Oulu International School and the Finnish education system
- Your CV including your language skills
- Any relevant university documents (optional)
- Your proposed internship dates
In addition, in your CV or motivation letter, please include a link to a short video introduction (2–3 minutes) in English. In the video, please tell us:
- Who you are and where you study
- Why you are interested in Oulu International School and the Finnish education system
- What experience do you have working with children and young people
- Which subjects or age groups interest you most
- What you hope to learn during the internship
- The exact dates of your proposed placement
We look forward to hearing from motivated and enthusiastic applicants who are interested in learning about education in Finland and contributing to our school community.
