The Beginner modules and tasks are suitable for all. Previous experience is not needed. You should start with Beginner tasks, before moving on to Adept and Super-Adept tasks.
Modules are described either in Finnish or in English.

Filocut (CNC Cutting machine)

Short description about the project
Using the software of the FiloCut, a programmable CNC polystyrene cutting machine, the young people first draw a silhouette of their head and have it cut out by the FiloCut. 3D figures are then created from polystyrene. The FiloCut can also be used in projects such as building bridges or marble runs.
Age group
10.-18.
Instructions
At the beginning of the session, the youngsters are given a short introduction to the cutting program. They then cut out the outline of their head using a photo. After that, they can go into free design and create their own projects. The young people can take all the projects they create home with them.
Goals
The young people gain an understanding of drawing with CAD programs. The basics of CAD are taught, fine motor skills are trained and mathematical understanding is imparted in a fun way and with quick success.

Learn the basics of CAD drawing. Train fine motor skills.

Programming with the Calliope Mini

Short description about the project
The Calliope mini is a single-board computer that was developed for educational purposes and is used in German elementary school. The aim is to give pupils from the third grade onwards a playful introduction to programming and algorithmic thinking. In addition to pupils, teachers and the education system are also to be reached so that more digital content can be taught in schools in the long term. The microcontroller can be programmed using various web-based development environments.

Instructions
The Calliope mini is explained using a Power Point presentation and all functions are shown and tried out. Afterwards there are small tasks that the participants have to solve with a small program. The focus here is on independent, easy programming. The tasks build on each other and become more and more challenging.
Goals
Playful introduction to programming. Algorithmic thinking and discovering their talents.
Skills
Math and Physics skills and experience in the graphical programming language.

Build your own wind turbine

Short description about the project
Using provided materials but without building instructions, the young people work together in teams to construct a wind turbine. They then compete by comparing which plant generates the most energy. The voltage is determined using professional measuring technology.

Instructions
The young people are asked to build a wind turbine without instructions. To do this, they think up the design and build it from a selection of materials. For the generator, eight neodymium magnets are attached to the axis of rotation on a disk (diameter: 15 cm) at regular intervals, making sure that the magnets have the same polarity. Then they have to wind eight coils of enameled copper wire onto the end of an Edding pen. The coils are now glued to the base plate of the wind turbine at regular intervals in a circle (diameter: 15 cm), making sure that the coils rotate in the same direction. Use a soldering iron to remove the copper enamel from the ends of the coil wires and then solder them together to form a closed circuit, solder the LED into the circuit. The resistance can be checked with a multimeter. Finally, all wind turbines are connected to an oscilloscope while being driven by a fan. This allows the voltage generated to be measured.

Kuvaus kokonaisuudesta
Arduino mikrokontrollerilla pelattava flappy bird peli klooni, jota pelataan yhdellä napilla ja 8×8 ledi näytöllä.

Työtavat
Ideoin minkä pelin tekisin arduinolleni, päädyin tekemään flappy birdin koska se on sopiva peli yhdelle napille. Sitten suunnittelin ensin paperille kotelon jonka sisälle elektroniikka menee, ja rakensin sen vaneerista ja puusta, lopuksi laitoin elektroniikan sisälle

Onnistumiset
Koin onnistuvani ohjelmoinnissa ja kotelon rakennuksessa, alkuperäinen suunnitelma kuitenkin muuttui hieman projektin eri vaiheissa.
Lukupyörä
Kuvaus kokonaisuudesta
Oppimiskokonaisuudessa oppilaat suunnittelivat kuntopyörän, jolla saadaan tuotettua sähköä. Projekti tehtiin ToolCamp-tapahtumaa varten. Oppilaat valitsivat haasteekseen keksiä ratkaisun energian tuotantoon ja puhtaaseen energiaan liittyen.
Heidän ratkaisunsa oli kuntopyörä, jolla saadaan tuotettua sähköä mahdollisten sähkökatkojen aikana. Pyörään asennettiin generaattori, jolla tuotetaan sähkövirtaa lamppuun. Lamppu on kiinnitetty pyörään asennettuun kirjatelineeseen.

Oppiainesisällöt
Oppimiskokonaisuus toteutettiin STEAM-valinnaisaineen tunneilla. Oppiainesisällöt: Fysiikka (sähköoppi) ja käsityöt (tekninen työ).
Taitotavoitteet
Tarvittavat työskentelytavat ja taidot: Hitsaus, kytkentöjen tekeminen, kuntopyörän purkaminen ja kasaaminen.
Arviointi
Projektissa arviointiin suunnittelutyön onnistumista, ryhmätyötaitoja ja ongelmanratkaisutaitoja.

Hitsaus, kytkentöjen tekeminen, generaattorin asentaminen, kuntopyörän purku ja korjaaminen ja poraaminen.

Onnistumiset
Oppilaat kokivat onnistuneensa johtimien asentamisessa, peltien hitsaamisessa ja leikkaamisessa sekä generaattorin asentamisessa.
Opettajan näkökulmasta oppilaat onnistuivat hyvin päivittämään suunnitelmaansa vastoinkäymisten kohdalla ja työskentelemään pitkäjänteisesti projektin parissa usean viikon ajan.
Mitä muuttaisimme?
Oppilaat: Voisimme asentaa pyörään vielä lisäksi puhelimen latauspisteen ja muuttaa lampun valon kohdistinta.
