A bicycle rack and a pop-up park next to the station tunnel
A high-quality bicycle rack and a temporary pop-up park will be built on the plot next to the station tunnel with a connection to the station platform on Hallituskatu.
The pop-up park will include trees, bushes, decorative plants, a blossoming meadow, and grass. The park is a micro forest trial in an urban environment where flora is planted densely and diversely. The final result will be a small and dense urban forest that offers several ecosystem services and improves the city’s comfort by introducing the same benefits as actual forests.
Benches, garden swings, and wall-like structures that are suitable for sitting will be installed in the park. The pop-up park is estimated to be removed from use in 2028 when a new pedestrian tunnel is constructed underneath the train station.
Most of the park’s equipment and materials will be recyclable and will be utilized in other construction projects after the park is dismantled.
A green-roof bicycle rack will be installed by the new pedestrian route next to the station platform. The rack will accommodate forty bicycles. The rack will be a fixed element even though the Station Centre’s construction is only beginning.
The project will take place from early May until Midsummer. Temporary traffic arrangements will be utilized in the area for the duration of construction.
The main contractor of the project is VRJ Etelä-Suomi Oy.
