Afternoon Care and Activities
Afternoon care and youth centres offer schoolchildren safe and stimulating environments for spending time after school. In Oulu, there are both afternoon care groups (subject to charge) as well as open afternoon activities (free of charge).
Afternoon care groups are for those first and second graders – and special education students in grades one to nine – whose parents work or study. The charge for a place in the afternoon care group is 120 euros a month and it covers for the education, accident insurance costs, afternoon snacks, and the material used during care.
The main application period is between 1 January and 15 February 2023.
You can apply a place either online via Wilma or by sending a paper application form.
The decision regarding afternoon care place will be published on Wilma on 15 May 2023.

The open, drop-in activities at youth centres for primary school students
The open afternoon activities at youth centres are free of charge. Under the supervision of professional youth workers, children can play, do their homework, and participate in various guided activities. Children can bring their own snacks if they wish.
Primary school students are welcome to drop in at the youth centres any time between noon and 5 pm (12–17). More information about the youth centres as well as their specific opening times you can find at the youth centres or on Nuorten Oulu website (in Finnish).
