After comprehensive education, application for secondary education may be made to a vocational institute or an upper secondary school.
There are five vocational upper secondary education and training institutes in Oulu which provide vocational education in various fields. In many vocational institutes you can also gain a vocational qualification through an apprenticeship.
Students usually apply to vocational education and training institutes through the secondary education joint application procedure. There are two application periods, one at the beginning of March and the other at the beginning of October.
You must complete basic education successfully before you can apply. Places are also allocated to students who have completed the general upper secondary education syllabus or the matriculation examination.
You can also study the general upper secondary education syllabus and take the matriculation examination while you are studying at a vocational education and training institute.
