Health protection


The Environment Office supervises the health conditions to ensure that public premises or other, similar public facilities do not cause any health hazards. The aim is to prevent health risks caused by issues such as ventilation, surface materials, or sound-proofing.

A notification according to the Health Protection Act must be made when the following premises are commissioned, or the operations or operators change:

  • day-care centers and youth premises
  • comprehensive schools, upper secondary schools, vocational institutes, institutes of higher education and other educational institutes
  • a social welfare unit providing continuous care
  • a beauty parlour, solarium or tattoo parlour
  • a swimming hall or pool premises
  • a public beach
  • a public sauna
  • a gym or other sports facility
  • a hotel or other accommodation facility
  • a reception centre

A notification regarding these premises or actions must be made to the Environment Office 30 days prior to the commencement of commercial operation or significant changes. Please, make the notification

A fee is charged for the handling of the notification. In addition, a notification must be made without delay in the event of change of operator or discontinuation of activity.

The health inspector will inspect the premises and actions regularly.
