Upper Secondary School & Library Route

Read the Oulu City Library's newsletter for upper secondary education. The newsletter is sent to library-teachers and student counselors via e-mail. You may read the newsletter online: Library's greetings to upper secondary schools for the fall semester 2024 (in Finnish).

The Library Route is updated in the fall of 2024. The upper secondary school guided tours for 1st year students is called the Kirjasto haltuun! workshop. To suppor the workshop, you can read an information package (in Finnish) ton Moodle and the Eväitä opiskeluun information gathering instructions. Additionally, upper secondary school students can watch reading tip videos in the classroom. The videos are found on this webpage. New reading tip video is published in every October, during the Kohti lukulomaa! event week. You will find reading lists tailored for upper secondary school modules at the bottom of this page.

Kirjasto haltuun! Workshop

The workshop lasts 75 minutes. The workshop can be held at a library or at the school.

  • The workshop discusses the services of libraries. The students will learn methods for efficient information searching and practice evaluating sources of information.
  • We recommend the workshop for 1st year students as a part of orientation to the fall semester.

Reserve a workshop using the online form

The library will contact teachers and invites all 1st year students to the library. The fall visits can be planned together with libraries already in the spring. You may also use an online form to reserve a workshop (in Finnish).

Kirjasto haltuun! Information Package on Moodle

In the fall of 2024, libraries will publish a new learning module for upper secondary school students. Kirjasto haltuu! Information Package can be found in the Oulu's Upper Secondary Schools' Moodle environment (in Finnish).

During the Moodle course, the students will revise using libraries, read about textbooks that are borrowed from libraries, and study information search in the online library. The Moodle course can be completed during the entire upper secondary studies, but it is good to finish it at the start of the first year's fall semester. The course's exercises can be done during class or independently. The Moodle course's contents support the Kirjasto haltuun! Workshop.
