Introduction

The Oulu Conservatory is the center of educational music life in Northern Finland. Young people, interested in music as a career or an enriching lifestyle, from all over the northern parts of Finland benefit from our vocational music studies and basic education. For children under seven years, we offer activities in music playschool. Over one thousand children and young people take part in our distinguished music education. Our curriculum is based in Basic Education in the Arts’ general and extended curriculum 2017 from National Board of Education.

We teach classical music, popular music and church music. Our sixty professional teachers are well educated and motivated. Our students and teachers give about one hundred concerts every year. Our diverse ensemble playing activities include a symphony orchestra, string orchestras and wind orchestras, as well as Opera Studio.

We operate mainly at the Oulu Music Center, right next to Pohjankartano comprehensive school including specialized music classes, upper secondary Madetoja Music High School and the Oulu Symphony. Our popular music training is located on the Kotkantie campus and we operate also at the Oulunsalo Hall.

In addition to basic education, we organize training and seminars. In the near future we will host the Finnish Guitar Teacher’s Forum, Madetoja Piano Competition and Finnish National Viola Competition.

Welcome to the music capital Oulu, which will become the European Capital of Culture in the year 2026.
