Library Equipment
Customer computers and printing
Computers are available for visitor use in all libraries. Some computers are meant only for short-term use and cannot be reserved. For longer use, you can reserve computers via Timmi.
The library computers are intended for basic computer use. You can use them to e.g., browse the internet, open and edit common file types, and print documents. You can connect your own USB flash drive or USB headphones to the computers. You cannot install your own software on these computers.
At the Central Library in Saari, you can borrow laptops from the 3rd floor. The laptops have the same software as the library computers, but you cannot print from them. Laptops may not be taken out of the library.
For more demanding creative work, you can reserve a media workstation at the Saari Central Library’s Digiverstas.
You can print at all libraries except for the Asema Library and Hiukkavaara Library. You can print from the library computers in A4 and A3 sizes, in black and white or in colour. In Kello Library and Martinniemi Library you can only print in A4 size. The printing paper is regular white 80 g/m² paper. You cannot use your own print paper, stickers or film in the library printers. Printing from your own device is not possible.
Prints and copies are paid at the customer service desk. If the library does not have a register, the charges of prints and copies are added to your library card; please remember to bring your library card with you. Printing and copying is not possible during self-service hours.
Mobile libraries do not have customer computers or printing.
Digitization
You can digitize cine film, cassette tapes and vinyl records at the Maikkula Library.
The Reflecta Digitizer can be used to digitize both 8 mm and Super 8 mm cine films. The device scans each film frame separately to a memory card. Frame-by-frame digitization takes some time. One 5-inch roll (15.2 metres) includes 3 minutes and 30 seconds of film, and its digitization takes approximately 30 minutes. The final product is an HD quality (1440 x 1080p) mp4 record. You must bring your own SD memory card with storage for at least 32 Gb.
The audio digitizer can be used to digitize cassette tapes and vinyl records to a CD-R disk. You must bring your own CDs.
ID card reader
Central Library Saari and the Haukipudas, Kiiminki and Oulunsalo Libraries have an ID card reader that can be used in the library. At Saari, you can use the reader with the Digiverstas media station. At the Haukipudas, Kiiminki and Oulunsalo libraries, you can use the reader with the library computers. The reader can also be used with your own device. The use of the reader requires a card reader program. The reader is meant for chip and smart cards that can be used to verify identity or can be used to log in. The reader can be used to activate the citizen certificate on the customer’s ID card chip with the required identification number.
Copying and scanning
A multifunction device for printing and scanning is found in the Central Library Saari and Haukipudas, Jääli, Kaakkuri, Kaijonharju, Karjasilta, Kastelli, Kaukovaunio, Kiiminki, Koskela, Maikkula, Myllyoja, Oulunsalo, Pateniemi, Rajakylä, Ritaharju, Tuira, Yli-Ii, and Ylikiiminki Libraries. With the multifunction device, you can send scanned files via e-mail or to a fixed memory card. You can also print from a memory card at all libraries listed above.
Important documents should not be fed into the copier from the top, instead you should use face copying. For example, some certificates utilize thicker paper or might include an embossed stamp which can cause creasing. Copy at your own risk.
Prints and copies are paid at the customer service desk. If the library does not have a register, prints and copies are charged via your customer account, remember to bring your library card with you. Printing, copying and scanning is not possible during self-service hours.
Laminating
At the Central Library Saari and Kiiminki Library, you can laminate A4-sized papers without reservation during customer service hours. 2 x 125 micron lamination pouches for hot laminating can be purchased at the library. A maximum of five lamination pouches can be sold to one customer per lamination. You are not allowed to use your own lamination pouches.
Sewing machine and overlocker
The Digiverstas Digital Makerspace at the Central Library Saari has a sewing machine and an overlocker available for booking. Using the machines is free of charge. You can use your own threads in the sewing machine. The overlocker only has white thread, and changing of threads is not allowed.
